The races that were scheduled for Saturday, June 13, at Laurel Brown racetrack near Salt Lake City were cancelled due to rain. The races, including the $60,000-est. Ed Giles Memorial Futurity and the Utah Classic Futurity, have been rescheduled for June 20.

With the notification late this afternoon that a horse in Starr County, Texas, has been diagnosed with vesicular stomatitis, Kentucky Administrative Regulation 302 KAR 20:115 now prohibits the entry of all livestock, wild and exotic animals into Kentucky from the VS-embargoed portions of Texas (identified as Starr County), and restricts the entry of livestock, wild and exotic animals from other portions of Texas to those that meet additional entry requirements.

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist today signed a gaming bill that increases the likelihood that Quarter Horse racing will return to Florida by the end of the year.

Freshman sire Brookstone Bay got his first stakes winner on Saturday when Ivansbay romped in the $129,420 TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity (RG2). The Runaway Winner stallion Flew Bye A Winner also got his first stakes winner when Chicka Wow Wow captured the $46,265 Lucille Rowe Derby.

ARAPAHOE PARK
American Flyer Stakes

Order of Finish: Chick Chasin Cowboy, Feature Miss Jesse, Shazooms Doll, Sweet Macho, Bestfoot Forward, Good Eye Opener

Chick Chasin Cowboy stopped the clock in :17.726 on Saturday in the American Flyer Stakes, clinching $8,701 of a $15,000-added purse for owners Carole Jane Cox and Tim Weeder. The gelding was ridden the 350 yards by Russell Vicchrilli to a win by 1/2 length.

“That jockey and horse are meant for each other," Cox said. "Russell loves ‘Cowboy,’ and Cowboy responds. They’re a bonded pair.”

The 7-year-old Chicks Beduino gelding has won 11 of 46 starts, including six stakes, and earned $196,706.

Chick Chasin Cowboy was bred by Cox in partnership with Shayna Muniz, and is out of the Ronas Ryon mare Ryons Dasher. Ryons Dasher is a two-time stakes winner and a half sister to stakes winner and Grade 1 runner-up Hitarun.

Cherry Creek Futurity (RG3)
Order of Finish: Yeah Ima Leader, Dashin Shazoom, Sleven, Willing Alibi, Jess Up And Gone, Teller Lightnin, Smokin And Stokin, Queeneyes, Hummers Big Strike, Fancy Dancy Do

Fastest qualifier Yeah Ima Leader, by Special Leader out of the Strawfly Special mare Yeah Im Flying, flew across the finish line in :16.634, capturing first place and $33,284 out of a total $83,195 for owners S/M Cattle Export Co. Yeah Ima Leader, trained by Roberto Sanchez and bred by Vaughn and Jill Cook, was piloted by Eddie Aceves to win by a nose in the 350-yard race. 

Speaking for S/M Cattle Export Co., co-owner Roberto Sanchez said that, “He broke kinda slow, but the last 50 yards he passed 'em pretty easy … he tends to come from the back … he tends to break slow from the gate, but he comes and finishes up pretty fast.”

This is the third win from six starts for Yeah Ima Leader, who has earned $42,290.

Lucille Rowe Derby (R)
Order of Finish: Chicka Wow Wow, Eyes Kudos, Bully Eyes, Tres Diamantes, Mr Bac Splash, Dream On Calyx, Shakem Not Stirred, Triple Six Center, JJ Dashin Hawk, Winlongluck

Homebred Chicka Wow Wow, the fastest qualifier for the race, was the clear winner in Sunday's $46,265 final. Owner and breeder Alfred R. Marez netted $18,511 from the filly’s win. Chicka Wow Wow boosted her lifetime wins to three from nine starts and her earnings to $38,011. The filly was trained by Alejandro Chavez. Ridden by Polly Robson, the filly dueled with Eyes Kudos, but ultimately came out the victor.

Marez stated that the filly’s next race would be the Mile High Derby. When asked what the filly’s strength was, Marez noted, “She breaks from the gate real good.”

Chicka Wow Wow is the first stakes winner by the Runaway Winner stallion Flew Bye A Winner. She is out of the Dash For Cash mare Dash For The Sixes, who is out of graded stakes winner and Grade 1-producer Tempered Glass.

Order of Finish: Mon Ti Rose, Heza Jodys Toast, Lil Miss Hatch, MCM Dozen Dasher, Bayou Blaster, Senor Seabolt, Slinkys Secret, AB Hope For Cash, Heza Patriot Dream, Heza Fast Classic

The winner of the $50,000 Mr Jess Perry Stakes on Saturday was the mare Mon Ti Rose, owned by Graciela Medina and Melba De La Cerda.

Mon Ti Rose is a 4-year-old by Dashin Bye out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Mon Ti Fleur. Bred by Ponderosa Ranch of P.C. Inc. and  ridden by Juan Vasquez, she stopped the clock in :19.786. The mare, trained by Frank Cavazos, beat fellow Cavazos trainee Heza Jodys Toast by a half length in the 400-yard race.

Mon Ti Rose has started 16 times and won six. She won the 2008 Louisiana Champions Day Derby (RG2) and earlier this year won the Party Girl Stakes (R).

Cash For Kas Handicap

Order of Finish: Spanish Cartel, Chalala, Just Dash, Shelbys Surprise, Look Her Over, Dimples First Dash

Spanish Cartel, ridden by Rodrigo Aceves and trained by Adan Farias, crossed the wire in :17.308, netting owner A Regal Choice Inc. $8,250 of a $15,000 purse. Spanish Cartel made a late rush in the 350-yard race, making her move in the last 110 yards.

The 4-year-old filly, bred by Erik and Francisco Flores, is by Corona Cartel out of Katies Victory by Victory Dash. She is a half sister to stakes winners Victory Splash and Elvis Is Bac.

Spanish Cartel has started a total of 17 times and won seven of those. This is her first stakes victory.

MOUNT PLEASANT MEADOWS

Michigan Bred Futurity (R)
Order of Finish: Dials Corona For Me, Happenedindamoonlite, CC Cartel, A Concept Of Dash, Runnin Is My Game, Refined Cowboy, Snaptooit, Princess Cailey, Kit Corona, Shakem Planet

Dials Corona For Me stopped the clock in :15.818, netting $11,777 of a $26,170 purse for owner and trainer Anthony Cunningham. Bred by Ray Cunningham and piloted by Oscar Delgado, the gelding showed good speed all the way down the straightaway, finishing a half length ahead of Happenedindamoonlite in the 300-yard race.

“We raised this horse from a baby,” Cunningham said. "My dad passed away in March, and this was one of his colts. It was an emotional thing for the people at the track. The colt ran a nice race. He broke well. He ran a really good race. The rider was confident going in, and that helps a lot.”

Dials Corona For Me earned his first win in three outs. He is by sophomore sire Corona For Me out of the Striking Bunny mare Strikin Dial. He is a half brother to stakes winner Dials Struttin and stakes-placed runners Strikin Back, Dials Flyin Free and Just Like Brisco.


RUIDOSO DOWNS

oso Sale Futurity (RG2)

Order of Finish: East Wing, Southernrunaway, Gen Flyer, Copy Em Chick, Zackaman, Blazin Hot Wings, Niftys Royal Flush, Corona Two Step, First Corona Call, Slide Of Hand

Roberto Sanchez trainee East Wing won the $182,955 Ruidoso Sale Futurity (RG2) by a head on Sunday, netting $87,877 of the winner's purse for owner S/M Cattle Export Co. The gelding, by Deferred Sentence out of the Shoot No mare West Wing, crossed the wire in :17.900, and was piloted by Salvador Martinez and bred by BLM Racing Inc. This was the gelding’s first graded race and his third win in four starts.

East Wing is a half brother to stakes winner Smith And West.

Bayer Legend New Mexico Derby Challenge (G3)
Order of Finish: Skyline Lover, Fly Miss Corona, Dashinski, Jesstifiable, Buildemhigh, Anywhere Bully, Take The Mountain, Makeminecaine, Wicked Seis

On Sunday, the
homebred Skyline Lover was the winner of the $49,860 Bayer Legend New Mexico Derby Challenge (G3). He stopped the clock at :19.943 over 400 yards, to earn $22,936 for James G. Burgess.

Piloted by Ricky Ramirez for trainer G. Wood, the gelding was third in the straightway, but closed quickly from the outside to win by a neck.

The gelding is by Feature Mr Jess out of the Royal Quick Dash mare Loves That Gold.

SAM HOUSTON

HA Sires' Cup Futurity (RG2)
Order of Finish: Ivansbay, Perryphery, Icy Patriot, Six Toast, Rhia La Jolla, Mischka, Special Pem, Kool Favorite

On Saturday, the board showed :17.699 after Ivansbay crossed the wire on top in the $129,420 TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity (RG2). The black homebred gelding by Brookstone Bay and out of Flyin Features by Strawfly Special, owned and trained by Frank Cavazos clinched $45,298 of the purse with J.R. Ramirez in the irons.

Ivansbay has raced four times since his debut in April, winning three. This was his first graded win and boosted his earnings to $53,368.

“He was the fastest qualifier by far,” Ramirez said. “I’m just glad he came through because sometimes the fastest qualifier doesn’t come back and win the final, but he did really well tonight. I think he’s a really nice colt. He knows how to run and he’s very talented.”

“I think we’ll put him in the trials for the Sam Houston Derby next and see how he does,” Cavazos added.

SUNRAY PARK

New Mexico Breeder’s Stakes (RG3)
Order of Finish: Roll A Miracle, Regal Fame, BP Shes Southern, My Box Of Chocolate, Downchicks N Themail, Corona N Lyme, One Diamond Kitty, His Time To Blaze, Jackboot, Rime N Royal

In his first start since September 2008, Roll A Miracle sprinted across the finish line first with Noe Garcia aboard, earning $45,000 of $75,000 in prize money for owner Rene Flores.

Diamond P Ranch bred the bay gelding, who is by Dean Miracle out of Reckless Coin by Reckless Dash. Roll A Miracle, trained by Oscar Carrete, clocked in at :19.582, beating out Regal Fame for the win in the 400-yard race.

“I can’t explain the feeling,” said an exuberant Rene Flores. "He won the (2008 New Mexico Breeders') Futurity (RG2) in Farmington, and it was great to see him come back. This is the first time he has raced in eight months, you can’t describe the feeling.”

Roll A Miracle has started five times and won four of them. He has now earned $139,359.

YAVAPAI DOWNS
Mark T Bars Stakes

Order of Finish: Pistoli, Thewayitallwentdown, Okey Dokey Pie, Fishing For Secrets, Fast Red Leggs, Monara Dash, A Splash Of Hell, Captains Road, Lil Lickitee Spit, Shez Social

Eloy Mendoza was up when Pistoli, trained by Gerardo Ochoa-Pena, shot across the finish line, winning $8,250 for owner Scorpion Stables LLC.

The bay colt stopped the clock at :17.201, making breeder Mark Anthony Kirks proud. Pistoli was ahead for the entire length of the 350-yard race and won by a nose.

Pistoli has won six of 18 starts, including the 2007 Yavapai Downs Futurity (G3). He has earned $74,928. The 4-year-old is by Stoli out of the Corona Cartel mare Bettor Cartel.
