October 28, 2009 - The Florida Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering yesterday approved Hialeah Park's application for a 40-day Quarter Horse meet. The meet is scheduled to begin November 28 and will run through February.
Quarter Horses will return to racing in the state for the first time since 1991, racing over the historic track which has been shuttered since 2001.
“We are very pleased with the approval for our racing dates," said track owner John Brunetti. "It is another step forward in a long journey. It is now full speed ahead.”
Florida DPMW officials have begun inspecting Hialeah for safety of horses and patrons and for operations.
In addition to Quarter Horse races, Hialeah will operate a poker room. |
